Rayon Spinning pot is a 'Recepticle' or container used for spinning and collecting continuous Viscose Rayon Filament Yarn. In early days it was known as the “TOPHAM BOX”. It was Charles Fred Topham who successfully set up the first apparatus for spinning viscose into rayon yarn at the beginning of this century. Over the years, due to the need of maximizing the production of Rayon Yarn, the rotational speed of Rayon Pot was increased and with that better raw materials as well as better method of construction were used in the manufacture of the pot. Some of these new raw materials were Ebonite, Aluminium, Bakelite Moulding Powder etc. Today the Rayon Pot spins at a speed of about 9000 rpm At such a high rotational speed the mass of rayon pot itself as well as the mass of cake of rayon yarn generates a tremendous centrifugal bursting force equivalent to almost 30MT or more. To resist this bursting force a spiral cage of high tensile strength stainless steel wire has to be incorporated in the cylindrical portion of the pot. The material of construction also changed to fine cotton fabric treated with special acid proof phenolic resin binder and thus through constant research, experimentation and development over the past 70/80 years the earlier Topham box evolutionsied to the present day Rayon Spinning Pot.
There are different individual nominal sizes of Rayon Pots viz 4”,5”,6”. Depending upon customer requirement, size as well as shape of the pot changes. At present “ABELIN” manufactures Rayon Pots of 9 different designs in various nominal sizes. If the specifications of an individual buyer do not fall within our present range, we can develop necessary tooling within a period of 6/8 weeks to manufacture pots conforming to the required shape and size.
